In a weak and pathetic effort to establish credibility and save their reputation, ACORN has filed a lawsuit in Baltimore, Maryland. They, and two of their former employees they fired, are suing undercover filmmakers James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles and Andrew Breitbart who posted their videos on BigGovernment.com. In reality, American taxpayers should be filing lawsuits against ACORN for misusing tax dollars, voter fraud, supporting prostitution and illegal immigration, and being an all around corrupt and unlawful organization.
If the tapes clearly show ACORN in the wrong on several separate occasions, then on what grounds are they suing? ACORN is claiming that Maryland law requires that there be a two-party consent for sound recordings, thus the videotapes in their Baltimore office were made illegally.
Of course, according to ACORN, we also have to take into account the suffering and “extreme emotional distress” the two workers, Shera Williams and Tonja Thompson, have experienced. Unfortunately for ACORN, ACORN actually fired the employees which makes the fact that the individuals are co-plaintiffs with ACORN more than a bit confusing. In fact, it’s more akin to an M.C. Escher painting than a normal lawsuit. Perhaps the plaintiffs should contemplate if their distress is coming from a conscience racked with guilt. That type of revelation might save them some time and money before they lose.
Arthur Schwartz, ACORN’s attorney, said that the videos made by Giles and O’Keefe were “clear violations of Maryland law that were intended to inflict maximum damage to the reputation of ACORN.”
While Maryland law does cite the necessity of getting all involved to give their consent to be recorded, this is an effort by ACORN to distract from their own serious issues. The laws that ACORN has broken in these videos, and its conduct throughout the past few years have gone unnoticed and unchallenged for far too long. ACORN would do far better in terms of repairing their public image by taking the high road and investigating their own practices rather than attacking others.

Breaking the law is never justified? Do you believe in breaking the law when the circumstance suits you? If yes, then you should move to Russia!!
