AFP is reporting that President Obama’s approval rating is lower than George W. Bush’s was at this time in his presidency. Bush’s approval rating was 56% at the six month point, while Obama comes in at 55%. Bush left office with a 22 percent approval rating.
Many view Obama’s handling of the economy as a main factor for his diminishing poll numbers. 49 percent of people disapprove of his handling of the economy while 47 percent approve. In addition, Americans disapprove of Obama’s health care policy by a margin of 50 percent to 44 percent.
“His ratings have certainly come back down to Earth in a very short time period,” said Republican pollster Whit Ayres.
President Obama’s advisor David Axelrod said that “turbulence” was expected in the president’s approval rating and was optimistic for the president’s future.
